Truefood Pearled Barley is NON-GMO and offers a range of health benefits as it is a nutrient-rich whole grain that provides protein, dietary fibre and iron among other vitamins and minerals. This slightly sweet and mild grain lends itself well to cold salads or even as a breakfast cereal topped with coconut sugar and is most popularly used as an addition to thick winter soups.
It is the most often consumed type of barley because it cooks faster and is less chewy than other, less-processed forms of grain, such as hulled barley. In terms of caloric, protein, vitamin and mineral content – pearl barley is similar to wheat, while certain types are richer in lysine.
SUGGESTED USE:
- Add one cup of pearled barley to three cups of water in a pot, bring to a boil and simmer.
